Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieha - Malta 2019
Fourth in the "Over Malta" Series, is of the Church in Mellieha. It was originally constructed in the late 16th century and contains a Byzantine-style fresco, depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary with Christ on her right arm. Tradition has it that the painting was made by St. Luke when he was shipwrecked on the island with St. Paul, but recent studies have shown it to be an early 13th century work. The church expanded several times to accommodate the growing population of the village and the roofed veranda is considered a classic example of 17th century Renaissance architecture. The sanctuary was blessed by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Malta in May 1990. If you like what we are doing, HIT the Subscribe button. Ruined Hotel - Malta 2019
Second in the "Over Malta" series, this one is of an abandoned hotel on the slopes of the Marfa Ridge overlooking Mellieha Bay. The ruins of the Festival Hotel are located in the Sdieri area, between the Red Tower and the boathouses in Mellieha. Now abandoned, the building has been defaced by graffiti. The hotel, as you can see was almost completed but the hill side started to give way, so construction was stopped, leaving this ruin behind. Architect was Richard England. He designed a dozen other hotels in Malta, for example: Cavalieri Hotel (demolished, replaced by Cavaliere Art Hotel) St George Park Bay Hotel White Rocks Holiday Complex (another famous abandoned hotel, urbex space) Salini Resort (current hotel is completely refurbished with little left of the original design) La Valletta Resort (also abandoned): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_England_(architect) Many thanks to Patrick VS for the info: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUIfLri8IOIO6sPzQeH7V_g If you like what we are doing, HIT the Subscribe button. Mellieha Bay Hotel - Malta 2019
Ninth in the “Over Malta” series is the Mellieha Bay Hotel. Opened in October 1969, the Hotel was, at the time Malta’s largest hotel with 428 beds and cost £1 million to build. Its opening heralded a new era in Malta’s post-Independence economy, a major step in promoting the island in the UK market, through Thomson Organisation Ltd. We have stayed at the hotel for four years, 2019 being the last. I’m glad I was able to get these shots of this grand old lady. 1969 - 2019 If you like what we are doing, HIT the Subscribe button. St Agatha's Tower - Malta 2019
I purchased a Mavic Air before my hols this year to Malta. Took it with me, and this is the first of a series of videos of some of the footage I got with this amazing drone. I was using the default settings on the controller so footage is a bit jerky, especially with the camera. In future videos you will see that I modified the settings and the shots are a lot smoother. This is a great addition to my arsenal of film gear. If you like what we are doing, HIT the Subscribe button.
